Creating a Discount

The process of creating a discount in re:Members AMS can be started from two locations:

  • from the Products App > Discounts or

  • directly from a product record, under the Prices tab.

Both methods are similar and lead to the same end result--the option you choose is based on your preference.

Tip: Discounts created from either area are saved under the Products App > Discounts and can be reviewed / edited from there.

Tip: Test any discount you create in your association's Sandbox environment prior to making it available in Live.

Creating Discounts from the Products App > Discounts

This method involves creating the discount first, apart from the product(s) it's related to, and configuring all settings within the Discount Record. It is especially useful if you are planning to create multiple discounts in a row or if you plan to connect one discount with multiple products.

  1. Open the Products App > Discounts.

  2. Click Add New Discount.

  3. In the Add New Discount form:

    1. Enter a Code and Name for the discount. If you plan to share discount codes with customers (to enter in the Promo Code field during checkout), the Code field is the promo code entered to apply the discount.

    2. Available From: Starting on this date, the discount will be usable.

    3. Available Until: This setting applies an end date to the discount, after which it is disabled.

    4. Chapter: For clients using the enhanced chapter functionality. Clients using standard chapters or no chapters can disregard this setting.

    5. Discount By: Choose the type of discount (percentage or flat amount).

    6. Click Stackable if users should be able to "stack" or combine the discount with other discounts.

    7. Click Save.

  4. Once saved, the Discount Record will appear. It's now necessary to set exactly how much the discount should be. Click the Prices tab and create the discount amount(s).

    Note: For simple, one-level discounts, create one price. Remember, the Discount By option you chose during setup will determine the value entered for the "price." E.g., if discounting by percentage, the price should be entered as a percent, such as "5%." If discounting by a flat amount, the price should be entered as a dollar amount.

  5. Once discount price(s) have been created, it's necessary to associate the discount with the desired product(s). Click the Applied Products tab.

    Three options are available:

    • Apply to ProductClosedChoose the specific product(s) the discount should be connected to.

    • Apply to Products by CategoryClosedChoose all/some products associated with a certain category to connect with the discount. Note, this option will only function if in your instance of re:Members AMS product categories have been configured and associated with products.

    • Apply to Products by TypeClosedSelect all/some products of a certain type to associate with the discount. This could be all memberships, all events, etc.

Creating Discounts from the Product Record

In this option, creation of the discount is started from the record of the product it will be associated with.

This option may be convenient for staff involved in product setup, because they can transition from creation of the product to creation of the discount with minimal clicks. It also links the discount to the product as soon as the discount is saved.

Note: Remember, a "product" in re:Members AMS is anything sellable, including event registrations, merchandise, subscriptions, etc.

In the product record, navigate to the Prices tab > Discounts menu option. If any discounts are connected with the product, they will be listed here.

Two options are available:

  • Add New Discount: Begin the process of creating a brand new discount.

  • Add Existing Discount: Look up an existing discount and connect it with the product.

Add New Discount

Clicking this option opens the Add New Discount form described in Step 3, above. Enter parameters and click Save. Once saved, a confirmation window will appear with the option to go directly to discount price creation or to the Discount Profile for additional configuration.

Add Existing Discount

This option opens a window allowing you to choose from a drop-down list of all discounts available in the system. Select the discount to associate the product with it.
